The parish council is increasingly concerned about the level of dog fouling in the parish.  It has been particularly bad on Potten End Old Green recently and new signs have been placed in an attempt to discourage it.  Dog owners are reminded that bagged dog excrement can be placed in any litter bit – not only in dedicated dog litter bins.  Please do all you can to keep our parish clean and healthy – especially in areas in which children play.

There are plans to ban HGVs going through Water End on the A4146, and to re-classify the road as a B road. The intention is for all HGVs to use the new A5/M1 link, when it opens. The parish council, however, has major concerns about the potential for HGVs to use Little Gaddesden and Nettleden as an alternative route.

Hertfordshire County Council is running a consultation between now and 2^nd October and it is vital to have as many voices as possible warning of dramatic problems unless it also bans HGVs through Little Gaddesden and Nettleden.

You can help by responding to the consultation process and/or by participating in a before and after traffic survey on 26th and 29th September.

The parish council has hired a JCB to level several areas on Potten End Village Green and some areas where stumps have been ground out have been dealt with. Also an old log seat has been removed and a new base dug out in readiness for a replacement bench.

David Lloyd visited our parish in his capacity as our county councillor in order to discuss a number of largely transport related issues.  The parish council is currently especially concerned about the impact of the proposed ban on HGVs over Water End bridge, progress with the installation of the ‘smiley face’ speed indicators, both the barrier and flooding outside Martins Pond and about parking arrangements on and around Potten End village green.  The adoption of the footpath in School Gardens was also discussed.  Councillor Lloyd will attend the 17th November parish council meeting, which will be an opportunity for parishioners to raise any concerns they have about these and other matters.

On 26th and 29th September volunteers from our parish and from Little Gaddesden took part in a survey to count the number of HGVs passing through parts of our parishes.  This was in order to obtain some base numbers ready for comparison with those to be counted next year once the bridge at Water End is closed to HGVs (after the opening of the Dunstable Northern Bypass – M1/A5 link).  The results can be found here.
