Part of The Common to be closed for tree felling

Parish footpath resurfaced

The footpath connecting Frithsden Copse to the Hertfordshire Way near to Horseshoe Pond (FP17) has just been resurfaced by Dacorum Borough Council.  Note that footpaths in the parish are maintained by Dacorum through its Rights of Way Officer.  The parish council keeps a watching brief on them and reports problems so that they can be addressed as soon as possible.  Whilst Dacorum looks after the surface of paths it is the responsibility of adjoining landowners to ensure that there are no vegetation, or any other, encroachments.

Community bookswap in The Plough

The community bookswap works like a library – except that there are no signup or late fees!  Anyone can go in and take a book away. You either return that book (when finished) or take in another to replace it. There are children books as well as adults. If you want to sit in and have a read you can. Refreshments are available to buy. Note that The Plough has generously donated the space for free but it is not responsible for it. The bookswap is managed by parish councillors Sharron Gurney and Erica Stanswick who replace books and keep it tidy.

A smiley face coming to Potten End

Following representations from the parish council and local residents, the Police and Crime Commissioner for Hertfordshire (David Lloyd) has agreed to fund a Speed Indicator Device (SID) for Potten End using his Highways Locality Budget.  Two sign sockets will be installed, one on Hempstead Lane facing northwest bound traffic and another on Water End Road facing west bound traffic.  The SID will be moved between them on an ad hoc basis as part of a countywide programme carried out by Herts CC contractors.  Installation is expected to take place in the autumn.

Proposal for additional parking on Potten End Green

The parish council has received a message from Hertfordshire highways regarding its (that is Hertfordshire highway’s) proposal to provide greater parking opportunities close to village amenities by constructing an additional parking bay on Potten End Green and extending the existing parking bay to the west under section 38 of the Commons Act 2006.  The full text of the message, including details of how to comment can be found here and a detailed map has been provided.  Note that this an initial informal consultation and that the proposal has not come from the parish council.  So any comments should not be directed to it, but to Hertfordshire highways.
